Choose lures and rods from ROM research — Kawa no Nushi Tsuri 2
Player-ready answers: which lures to carry, which rod to buy, and when to heal before fishing.
A practical lure kit
\1Each full pair below covers all 38 lure fish. Choose a pair stocked in your area. A fish follows the lure when it is on the lure’s tile and you keep tapping A or B; press A once when it is level with the lure to hook it.\2
This pair does not cover every fish. Search for your target on the maps, then open its fish details to find compatible bait or flies. Find a fish and its compatible bait ↗
Which rod should I buy?
Choose by fishing style and what you want to improve: more time to aim, or a line that breaks less easily (the fish can pull farther before tackle is lost). Line strength decides big fish; time to aim does not make fish bite more. Each rod's page says which fish it suits.
Float / Ayu
14
For the most time to aim in this style, choose this rod. It costs the same as the Ayu rod, 7 m, but gives more time to aim and a line that breaks less easily.
08
If your priority is a line that breaks less easily, the Carp rod is tied for the best in this style.
15
Tied with the Carp rod for the line that breaks least easily, with more time to aim but ¥500 more cost.
Casting
10
Choose this two-handed rod for the most time to aim and the line that breaks least easily in this style. Its line is long enough for every species, including carp and eels, but it starts worse on small and mid-size fish, so keep it for big ones.
Lure
0D
The most time to aim and the line that breaks least easily in this style. Only ¥50 above the large lure rod. If you want those two benefits, the extra cost makes sense; it starts worse on small and mid-size fish, so keep it for big ones. If you already own the large lure rod, buying this one still costs the full ¥650.
Fly
13
The most time to aim and the line that breaks least easily in this style. Only ¥50 above the medium fly rod. Choose it for those two benefits. If you already own the medium rod, the purchase still costs ¥450, not ¥50. It starts worse on small and mid-size fish (1.7 mistakes on average), so use it for big fish only.
Technical evidence and full compatibility table
This section keeps the data needed to check the conclusions. Internal ROM counters are not seconds, metres, or catch scores.
\1The 64 ordinary fly-body IDs normalize to three bait IDs but use only two masks: 0020 passes 33 profile masks; 0004 passes 17, all already included in those 33. The 0020 bodies are IDs 01–08 / 2B–33 / 4B–4F / 60–65. Wings and tails do not change the body mask. The save’s hidden lock blocks this fly-hook path when (BODY ID & 3) equals 7F:1E86 or (WING ID & 3) equals 7F:1E88; this filter does not read the tail. The lock is written once when the save is formatted (a fresh save gets body 1, wing 2) and again only by an inn rest (about a 34% chance that at least one side changes). In emulator tests every fish on the list bit a fly that passed the lock (wet 33 of 33, dry 17 of 17); ROM audit of 2026-10-07.\3Rod fields and their traced consumers
+2 is the counter cutoff for aiming: while the direction input is held, the target moves; releasing the cast button or reaching the cutoff makes the game check that tile. +3 becomes a fish-position limit in one specific hook/lure/fly loss branch. A higher limit lets the fish travel farther before that branch, while other escape routes remain. +7 changes the initial fight state. These are not landing-success scores.
\1Lure 12 checks Black bass, lure 21 Namazu, and lure 51 Akame. On an exact match, the game halves the starting response value and skips that lure’s size-based transform; the rod still transforms the value afterward. All three fish are over 35 cm, where the lure’s size class already halves the value, so the match changes no real fight and does not change whether the fish follows the lure.\3All rod records
